If you have been thinking about how to live a more sustainable life and get away from the city dwellings, then you will enjoy this story.  4 couples in Texas who have been friends for over 20 years decided that they would give it a shot.  In doing so they decided to officially establish their encampment as ‘Llano Exit Strategy,’ and chose a spot along the Llano River near Austin.

Using inexpensive, but durable material they designed a “cabin” with long term sustainability in mind.  It is made of corrugated steel, plywood, treated plywood, and specially insulated windows for battling the extremes in weather.  They even have 5,000 gallon tanks that collect rain water from the slanted roofs of the cabin.

Then they built three more and furnished each one with a queen size bed, some comfortable seating, and a few other small pleasures.  The cabins even have plenty of built in storage and bathrooms.  The best part is each cabin only cost $40,000 to build and provides each dweller with the serene beauty of the surrounding desert.  Not to mention a path to a sustainable lifestyle.
