This morning, when I checked Facebook, I saw a status from a former colleague of mine announcing to everyone that he is single again and happy about it. And then it was followed by a series of posts talking about his ex and how badly she treated him.

Guys, if you don’t want to be judged by other people, I think it would be best if you avoid posting all your drama on your social media. First, nobody really cares. Second, it’s best to keep your personal business private. And lastly, broadcasting your emotions to the world in the form of bashing someone isn’t exactly a sign of maturity.

In my opinion, instead of showcasing all your dirty laundry for everyone to see, do something worthy with your time. Perhaps, focus on being a better man or on being self-sufficient so that next time, you won’t have to count on other people for sympathy.

Here are 4 signs you’ve lost sight of what’s truly important in your life.

You Feel Stuck

You have obviously lost sight of what truly matters when you’re feeling stuck in a job you hate or trapped in an unhappy relationship. Instead of pursuing your dream or being with someone that makes you happy, you are wasting your precious time on something that doesn’t allow you to move forward in life, to grow, to be who you really are and to become your best self.

If you’re life feels like a constant struggle, you need to start taking the time to think about what you really want and what will make your existence more meaningful.

For instance, if you’re always having full-blown chaotic fights with your partner, with all the screaming, cursing and violence, you might want to take a closer look into your relationship and consider that perhaps, you’re better off without each other and that it’s time to break up and move on.

Guys, whatever you do, make sure that at the end of the day, you feel good about yourself – that you’re making progress, that you’re happy and satisfied – because if not, I think it’s best to just follow the blinking arrow at the door and go find something better to do with your time.

You’re In a Financial Mess

Another clear sign that you have priority issues is when you’re broke or in a financial catastrophe. Most likely it is because you have become lazy. You have no goals. You are living way beyond your means, you don’t have emergency savings and worst, you’re drowning in loans and credit card debts.

Guys, it’s important to know what you’re working for, what fulfills you and what you cherish more than anything. You need to have a concrete plan to get where you want to be. It’s not enough to just say that you want to have $50,000. You have to earn it and work for it.

You’re Always Sick

You ignore your well-being. You don’t care enough about your health. You eat whatever you want to eat even though you know that it’s not good for you. You’re also not being responsible with your lifestyle. You’re not bothered if you’re overweight or underweight, you’re not making any conscious efforts to break your bad habits like smoking and excessive drinking.

You might be okay for now but in the long run, your body will pay for it. You might suffer serious consequences of your unhealthy choices like getting a heart attack or being put on dialysis.

Guys, don’t wait for those health problems to wake you up and tell you to change your lifestyle before you bring your body back into balance. Instead, make a choice now to prioritize and take care of your health.

You’re Always Trying Hard to Please Everyone

There’s nothing wrong in trying to please your family, friends, boss or your crush but not if it’s affecting your goals and priorities, putting you in a bad position, making you miss out on a lot of opportunities, draining your energy and wreaking havoc in your life.

In the piece “Are You Saying No to What Matters Without Realizing It?” Dr. Susan Biali explains that every time you say YES when you really need to say NO, you’re actually trading your precious and priceless time for something that pales in value by comparison.

Trying to please everyone around you and seeking their approval all the time don’t make sense because in reality, not everyone will like you. People will use you and walk all over you if you allow them to.

Next time, refuse to let people take advantage of you. Be honest, speak up about what’s really on your mind and tell them nicely that you’re not comfortable in doing what they want. When you learn how to say NO and stand up for yourself, people will respect your time and space, you will avoid constant anxiety and stress over what to say and do and most importantly, you will have more time doing the things that matter most to you.
