I don’t know why, but as a child I loved watching horror movies even though it scared the living hell out of me. I think it somehow heightened my imagination and opened my senses to the things around me and even to the things that are not visible to the naked eye. Now, that I am older, I still sleep with a nightlight on in my room and with my feet completely covered with the blanket for fear that some creature might pull me out of the bed.

Last night, my head hit the pillow early. After a few minutes, I started hearing a slow thud of footsteps in the hallway, coming towards my room. Then, my door opened itself. I didn’t want to open my eyes to check and see what was in the room with me, but it was something strange and uninvited. I felt the bottom of my bed sink like someone was lying next to me. I freaked out but I couldn’t move. I tried to scream but no sound was coming out.

Suddenly, I woke up gasping for air. I couldn’t believe that it was just a dream because it felt so real. I shook off the unsettling feeling. When I looked at my bedside clock, it was exactly 3 A.M. Coincidence? I can’t say, but fortunately I didn’t see any creepy monsters or demons in my room with me.

Bizarre things happen around 3 A.M.

I am not just talking about the freaky stuff, it’s also about waking up to the sound of loud, scandalous moans coming from your neighbor’s house, banging doors because your idiotic roommates just arrived drunk from an all-night party and your ringing phone being stalked by some prank callers.

Sometimes, you can’t sleep because you’re sucked into the abyss of online dating and left wondering why nobody seems to like your profile. You’ve done everything. You’ve uploaded your best graduation photo; you also included your job experiences as if you’re writing a comprehensive resume and shared a very detailed story of your past love life. You’re just trying to be real, right?

Regardless of your good intentions, too much information can kill the mystery and excitement.

“Best Ways to Make Her Approach You” by Madeleine Holden introduces a fresh approach to dating, whether it’s actual or online. She gives specific tips on how to grab women’s attention and how to give yourself the best possible shot at being approached.

You may also be awake at 3 A.M. because you’re addicted to Instagram. Well, I can relate to that. Watching trick shots and funny epic fails can really keep me up all night too.

But do you know that we can turn these seemingly useless all-nighters into something productive?

Andrew Cross gives us “Fashion & Lifestyle Accounts to Follow on Instagram.” The list is composed of 4 men, 1 woman and a dog, who do things a little differently.

We all need a little inspiration from time to time, so let these social media outlets give you some out of the box ideas in developing your own sense of style.

Maybe you’re up because of work, or lack of it.

Another reason why you’re probably wide awake at 3 A.M. and deprived of sleep is because your mind keeps on focusing on personal issues like unemployment or the threat of it. Well, there are ways on how to simplify job hunting by starting off with how you write your online resume.

Your online profile is the most powerful branding tool you have. Forbes’ contributor Kathy Caprino wrote “The Top 3 Mistakes Mid-Career Professionals Keep on Making On Their LinkedIn Profiles.” In this article, she identifies what doesn’t really help you sell yourself and the things to do to avoid it. She also emphasizes that:

Talking about the positive and powerful outcomes you’ve generated over gloating about your accomplishments is a more effective and a more fascinating story to tell.

To make a positive impact through your LinkedIn summary and any other social business network  it would be better to focus on describing how you make things happen and not just on the type of tasks you’ve performed.

When you find yourself always tossing and turning all night, it certainly could be a lifestyle issue too.

Especially if you are someone who drinks every night of the week, Bro, that could be a serious problem. Scott Rosenfield describes the crazy things that happen to your nervous system when you drink before bed.

When our body doesn’t get the shutdown it needs to revitalize, it depresses our brain, makes us feel restless and feeling groggy and gross in the morning.

A lot of the best and worst things happen at 3 A.M. guys. I guess what makes this ungodly hour so special is the timing itself. The cravings, the hormones, the entertainment. How about you? What’s your 3 A.M. story?
