Kobe Bryant. The Legend, The Inspiration.

23 August 1978 – 26 January 2020

It’s unlikely that you haven’t already seen the news that NBA legend Kobe Bryant and “Gigi” his 13 year old daughter have left us under tragic circumstances.

The way that the world has lit up following the accident is testament that he shone bright enough to transcend Sport, Impacting the world many times over. Jerseys with the Black Mamba’s name on the back can be seen allover the world and he was a beacon of perseverance, focus and dedication.

He was renowned for his unique ability to play through injuries, making him one of sport’s most relentless competitors.

From a life that saw him known as the “Showboat”, to a blitzing partnership with Shaq, from the Top 3 all time high scorer to multiple MVP, five time championship and Academy Award winner, Kobe remained an inspiration to the world both on and off the court from his motivational quotes to his various charitable work.

He once said that “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.”

The debate will reign on whether he caught his idol, Jordan’s status and whether he or LeBron is the greater modern day legend – aptly, his final tweet was commending LeBron on surpassing his third place all time scoring record.

One thing is for sure; people the world over will mourn his passing.

“You asked for my hustle. I gave you my heart.”

Rest in Peace, his legend lives on.
