Did you know that as much as 10% of a healthy population will have zero improvement in their aerobic capacity from doing cardio workouts? That’s right – all that working out for nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Crazy, huh?
Then there are those who show only moderate improvements even when a regular cardio workout schedule is followed. Hmmm.
If you aren’t feeling the positive effects of those long runs you take every morning, you may be in that minority of people who are simply physically unable to gain anything from doing regular cardio exercise.
“There are high responders and low responders.,” Dr. Claude Bouchard, told The New York Times. Bouchard runs Louisiana State University’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center and has conducted research in these areas for decades and routinely comes to the same conclusion.
“We tested, trained and retested them with the same program … and we have found the same thing in each of the clinical centers,” said Dr. Bouchard.
It’s time to face the facts workout junkies … some people just can’t enjoy the fruits of their cardio labor.
Dr. Bouchard has since expanded the research into finding the genetic reason why this is happening. That report demonstrated that people with certain genetic make-ups just couldn’t absorb oxygen as much oxygen as others, thereby losing most, if not all, of the benefits of cardio.
And you thought it was the shoes.
